I agree with Mr. Chapman, but I would add this: The beginning of this fiasco that used to be called football began when the arms and hands of the offensive linemen were allowed to be extended and blocking became pushing. From that moment on, football as many of us knew it ceased to exist. I have coached football at the high school level as an assistant and as a head coach for 41 years and have watched the games turn into trackmeets while the influence of the officials has grown almost geometrically.
There are things that can be done to make the defenses catch up with the offenses, but if the vast majority are happy with the state of the game right now, there is no reason for those things to be done. Rather than be assailed as a luddite, I will just say a fond farewell to a game that has been much of my life for about all of my life
