Bashers Face Backlash

by Miguel Perez

As candidates keep dropping out, or getting trounced, in the race for president, the walls are caving in for those seeking to elect an anti-immigrant zealot. After all, those candidates who have practiced the politics of xenophobia are not doing too well.

Mr. Perez, I watched you today on CNN's "Lou Dobbs Tonight." You were of the opinion that moveon.org endorsing Senator Obama would only "hurt him." Before I changed the channel to watch the local news, someone else that CNN had on chimed the same thing. Are you guys setting up an echo chamber here? Take another look at the General Betrayus ad. How far have we gotten in Iraq since that ad appeared in the New York Times, I believe? We haven't. Now look at the polls, for all the past GOP heartburn over moveon.org, no GOP seeking the presidency has managed even the polling levels in the primaries and caucuses as the Democrats themselves have. That is not likely to change even with moveon.org jumping on the endorsement bandwagon. The GOP no longer have a member of the Bush family to rally around. The General Betrayus ad is part of GW's history. And today, people face enough hard ships on the home front that they can't afford any more battles that is going to cost them and their grandkids. Now, you seem to be applauding the idea that those folks such as Duncan Hunter and etc. who were most strident on immigration also had to step aside from the presidency. You assume that Americans are most compassionate toward the illegal immigrants in their midst. Are you so sure? People who become desperate for jobs, a lifestyle to which they are most comfortable won't be "compassionate" toward illegal immigrants. They want answers that so far, the most stridently anti-illegal immigrant also ran on the GOP ticket did not choose to give them. Health care, an improved economy, improved education. Also, you can cast me among the fear mongers if illegal aliens also engage in the drug trade and smuggle dirty bombs into our major cities. We still do have a war on terror, Mr. Perez, even if you are among those who'd like to forget it.
