He's beginning to sound like a late-night pitchman? What took you so long? I'm on record as having stated in early 2008 that Obama reminds me of a guy in an alley assaulting passers-by with a "Yo! My man! Buy a watch!" I've seen no reason since then to alter my assessment...on the contrary, given the dissonance between Obama's words and Reality, I'd say I was too gentle with him. Late-night pitchman, eh? Well, welcome aboard, if belatedly.

It would seem that you listened to a different speech than I. You say "The president could have used his primetime public address to search for a moderate compromise. Instead, he chose to call those who disagree with him liars ..". He in many sentences spoke about compromise and exhorted both sides of the aisle to work together to solve the problem. He made few demands on the resulting solution and those he did make are for the most part are already agreed upon by the majority of his audience. His references to lies was very specific to a couple of lies to do with 'death panels' and illegal immigrants which in the context of the statements made by people like Mrs. Palin are indeed lies.
The premise of your article which is stated in the title is a real stretch. The majority of Americans think health care reform is important, necessary, and desireable else it would not have been a topic in political campaigns and for debate in Congress for the past decades. If you really listened to the speech the real points the President made was that reform is necessary to solve a big problem for us all, it needs to be done now, so lets stop the posturing, fear mongering, and politicing as usual and get to work. That shouldn't be that difficult to sell. Solving the issues relating to cost and the difficulties of the details is the job we sent the pepole to Washington to do.
It aslo interesting that the hoopla from conservatives/Republicans about cost would make much more sense if they had had anything to say while the previous administration was running up ridiculous debts with an unnecessary war and tax cuts for the rich. It seems the real issue to them is what money is spent on, not the spending itself.

Here's an idea for a compromise:
Let's take Obama at his word that no abortions will be financed, the deficit will not increase by even a dime, and no illegal immigrants will receive care. Let's adopt that plan with one stipulation-- if health care reform funds one or more abortions, if one or more illegal immigrants receive care through it, or if it causes the deficit to increase, then Obama's plan will be scrapped and a Republican plan adopted.
Do we have any Democrats who will take that compromise? I didn't think so. That proves that Obama lies.
