I have a problem with calling April 2 American Discovery Day. Maybe we should call it USA Discovery Day. Damn those thieving gringos! They stole the name America which had been misnamed to start with. Also October 12th is known as Discovery Day in some Latin American countries. Calling April 2 Discovery Day would be a slap in the face to those Latin Americans. I strongly favor reserving Discovery Day for October 12th.
Florida Discovery Day may be the better choice rather than compounding the gringo "error" of calling their (our?) country America on top of the European misnaming of the American continent which should have been named Columbia.
I strongly suspect that the English and the Dutch were behind the misnaming of America although it was done by a German cartographer and I further suspect that exiled Sephardic Jews were behind both the English and the Dutch since at the time Cristóbal Colón was a Spanish Admiral and England and Holland (where many Sephardics took refuge after their expulsion from Spain) were deadly commercial and military rivals of Spain.

I am also shocked that there isn't a celebration in St. Augustine on April 2, 2013, to celebrate Ponce de Leon. Political correctness aside, for once, why not celebrate the daring of people who were willing to trust their lives to small wooden ships, with only the stars to guide them?
I am from Ohio, and have lived in Florida since 1984. Love it here! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in St. Augustine. We drank from the Fountain of Youth (didn't work!), and saw many other tourist attractions. The Spanish Quarter is always worth seeing, as is the Castillo. I plan to be in St. Augustine on its quinticentennial whether the city plans to celebrate it or not. St. Augustine has fired my imagination since childhood.
