Dear Mona Charen,
My name is Mais Fanek; I am currently a student at the New York Institute of Technology in Amman, Jordan. Having read most of your articles about Arabs and Muslims, I noticed that you have some biased opinions. Therefore, I write this letter to you hoping that you would consider a point a view from a Christian woman living in the Middle-East among Muslims.
Nowadays, people all around the world need to examine the religion of Islam closely. I am shocked at how civilized, educated and modern people blame radical Muslims after they commit terrorist attacks while Israel is not blamed for committing state-sponsored terrorism against innocent civilians. Why do the American and British media focus excessively on Arabs and keep on searching for more destructive evidence while leaving the other nations in alone? Of course, the world is going to hate Arabs and Islam because of all the media propaganda.
Reading the article about “Will Europe Become Eurabia?”, I could not believe why you seem to believe that “Europe is a beacon for Arab and Muslim immigrants, who flock to the freedom, comfort and convenience available in Western nations. There is no corresponding emigration from Europe to the Islamic world. Immigrants seek a better life, which is abundantly available, particularly in light of Europe's generous welfare benefits.” How about the hundreds of Europeans who live in the Gulf countries? If they were not satisfied with the living conditions there, they would not stay there.
Regarding the Muslim letter to the Pope, it may be only on a piece of paper that Muslims wanted peace with the Christians; it just showed that not all the Muslim leaders or people are full of evil and hatred. You mentioned that “the Muslims should issue a document that denounces Islamists; that rejects their violent interpretation of jihad; that affirms the human dignity of non-Muslims”. I think the letter to the Pope that wants peace is more than enough. It is better to take the first step than not taking it at all. We are human beings and we all do wrong things, apologies and wanting peace is considered a courageous step for me.
Lastly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this article. Please do not hesitate to email me with your opinion responding to what I think. (mais14@hotmail.com)
