I haven't commented on any of the creators articles in the past, but this struck a special cord inside of me. I'm a young, college-age conservative and have spent the last several years having my more liberal friends tell me how bad of a person I happen to be because I vote Republican. I vote Republican for the reasons that Towery describes himself as being conservative, because I believe in self-determination, that we should be free to choose with whom we associate and how we spend our time and money, and how much of that money we get to keep. The idea of separate but equal was never equal in its prime and certainly isn't now. Certainly, there is plenty of self-segregating in the world. Most neighborhoods will feature one race more than another, but this is an entirely separate situation from what amounts to state sponsored segregation. The idea that anyone's tax dollars should go towards promoting the differences in races, whether to split them up or say that one is better than another is inherently wrong. We, as Americans, have the right to feel secure in the knowledge that our taxes aren't going to promote modern day Jim Crow laws. These kids should be going to the same prom, it makes no sense to divide it.
