Rocking the Monocle: That guy with the monocle on the cover of The New Yorker is named Eustace Tilley, who was created by art director Rea Irvin for the first cover in 1925. He appeared on every cover of The New Yorker until 1994, when R. Crumb created his grandnephew Elvis Tilley for the cover. Eustace usually still makes an appearance every year on the cover of the issue closest to the anniversary date of Feb. 21.
