Towel Day: When Douglas Adams died on May 11, 2001, an Internet forum proposed that, two weeks later, fans celebrate the author of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" with the first Towel Day. As Adams explains in the first volume of the series, "A towel ... is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have." You mainly celebrate by carrying around a towel all day and explaining, over and over again, why you are doing so.
