Mary, You should have taken the advice a little farther. Credit counseling is available for free. Sometimes those services can help debtors consolidate bills. In addition, don't just call creditors to tell them you will be late on payments or making less than minimum payments, write them. Years ago I called four creditors, and later all four claimed no record of my calls, and it was difficult to show good faith effort to pay and enlist their aid. Write them, and keep a copy of the letter, or work through one of the federally-funded free consumer credit counseling services!
