I thought it was odd that you failed to mention that MARK HAMMILL - THE Luke Skywalker of Star Wars fame - made early appearances on GENERAL HOSPITAL. Oscar-nominated actress KATHLEEN TURNER appeared as Nola Dancy Aldrich on The Doctors before going on to make ROMANCING THE STONE, Jewel of the Nile, WAR OF THE ROSES and Peggy Sue Got Married. Another Oscar winner, TOMMY LEE JONES, put in early appearances as Dr. Mark Toland on One Life to Live. Lawrence Fishburn and Phylicia Rashad also BOTH once appeared on One Life to Live. LONG before landing on Lou Grant as Charlie Hume, MASON ADAMS was the radio voice of Pepper Young in Pepper Young's Family. And - here is a switch - LONG before he became the beloved Dr. Steve Hardy on General Hospital - JOHN BARADINO was WELL known for his roles in Westerns, including The Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid and Maverick - to name a few. PHIL CAREY (Asa, One Life to Live) and ANNA LEE (Lila Quartermaine, General Hospital) did it in reverse. BOTH performers had a list of credits as long as your arm BEFORE turning their attention to soaps. AND -- if you have ever wondered what it would be like if Adam Chandler, Asa Buchanan and Kay Chancellor were ever marooned on a desert island together - you should try catching an episode of CIMARRON STRIP titled 'Knife in the Darkness' on the Westerns Channel - because DAVID CANARY, PHIL CAREY and JEANNE COOPER all turn up in that episode! Those are just a few of the well-known performers who come to mind who also had a place on soaps. Incidentally, movies which INTRODUCED such eventual stars as ROCK HUDSON, Donna Reed and KIM NOVACK were movies which STARRED PHIL CAREY! There is a movie titled GUN FURY which was re-released and the re-release implied that the 'stars' of the movie were Rock Hudson, Donna Reed and Lee Marvin. BUT - if you are ever lucky enough to catch a copy of the ORIGINAL movie - the ORIGINAL movie identifies the STAR of the movie as PHIL CAREY - and the movie is 'introducing' Rock Hudson and Donna Reed. Lee Marvin has only a few lines in that movie! In PUSHOVER - the movie which introduced KIM NOVAK, Kim's first scene shows her coming out of a movie theater. As she leaves the theater, Kim's character, Lona McLane, pauses and looks up at the theater's marquee. The marquee clearly reads that the movie which she is leaving is THE NEBRASKAN - which starred PHIL CAREY! (The Nebraskan was also one of the early Three D movies!) Years ago, at least, one of the reasons why women hated to be interrupted while they were getting their daily dose of afternoon soaps was because they were frequently watching Oscar-caliber performances - only no one knew it until YEARS later!
