Several years ago, 3-year-old Joshua Wood was attending Mass with his father when he tugged on his father's sleeve. "Who is Speedy God?" Joshua asked.

Perplexed, his dad asked him what he meant.

Joshua replied that, when the person up front (the Lector) said, "The Word of the Lord," the people replied, "Thanks, Speedy God!" (Translation: "Thanks, be to God.")

I was older than 3 when this happened. I was memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution for school. I kept getting hung up on ordain and decided it mean to do or to dain (to do or not to do). I don't know why I never asked an adult. I was in high school before this clicked in my mind. A boy in my 5th grade class asked how to spell "motorcycle." I wrote it down for him. Another student asked how to spell "motorsickle." When I handed him the paper he protested that it couldn't be spelled like that. I don't know if I convinced him; but he used the correct spelling. LOL
