Top-rated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has one of the most lucrative deals in broadcasting history, worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and could certainly afford any birthday cake he wants. However, when longtime staff and friends recently presented him on the air with a "White Trash" Cake for his 58th birthday, the veteran broadcaster gasped in glee and exclaimed, "We love 'White Trash' Cakes here!"

It is not White Trash cake it is a Jello cake. (White) Trash cake or Dump cake or Garbage Cake (it has all these different names) is made by dumping cherry pie filling in a 9x12 pan then dump crushed or whole or bits of canned pineapple in it then sprinkling a cake mix over that and a cube of melted butter, brown sugar, option walnuts or pecans and coconut over the cake mix and then put the whole thing in the over and when it is done, you have Dump cake or as some call it Trash cake or even Garbage cake. How a perfectly fine delicious JELLO cake got called White Trash cake is beyond me. I believe that the first jello cake recipe appeared in connection with Jello gelatin probably in magazine ads.
