Tonight is Guy Fawkes Night in Britain, which celebrates the thwarting of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot in 1605. Fawkes and a group of Catholics wanted to blow up the Houses of Parliament. (At the time, Catholics were severely repressed in England.) Today, the British celebrate with fireworks and by burning effigies called guys.
