Dear Annie: I am a single female in my 60s who feels very different from anyone else. I have never had any sexual desires — not for men, not for women, not for anyone. Is this what the term "asexual" means?

Giselle most certainly is not a complete Luddite if she has a phone and electricity. Let her know that her requests are comparable to someone requesting that they come into her home to do all their phoning for the week. i If she doesn't want a secondary phone line dedicated to free internet access, she could consider getting call waiting or a cell phone. And arrange for her to have a basic computer class besides what you've given her -- you can often find these at senior citizen centers or recreation departments.
