William, while I agree with you that we need to put a lot of effort into educating people and treating addiction, I believe it is equally as important to do what we can to eliminate the need for farmers in poor countries to grow illegal substances in order to feed their families. We are a global community and our responsibility is not only to those that are within our boundaries, but in helping the world to be a more just and equitable place. Paying farmers to leave thier land fallow, while helping them to transfer their land to crops that will both support health and sustain their families, is an important task. Currently with the political situation in Afgahanistan, building a positive relationship with a democratic society is important.

As long as we have a nation that is spiritually directionless, herione will continue to dig its claws into those who are looking for ways to make life meaningful - to feel connected to something - to feel alive. Treatment for addiction and education regarding the impact of drugs on life is not enough. We need to be about changing our society and changing the global community in which we exist, into a world where lion can lay down with the lamb and neither will they study war ( whether global or internal) anymore.
