Smiling Without Teeth
by William Moyers
The Focus treatment facility at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, Minn., held a party for itself last week to mark 25 years of service to people addicted to alcohol and other drugs.
I was there, too, and I noticed almost right away that a fair number of the younger partygoers were missing teeth. But they didn't try to hide it. How could they? They were smiling too much.
No wonder they were happy; they're clean and sober. No wonder their teeth are missing; once, they were ...

I don't believe no one else had anything to say about this topic. It is the perfect place to give someone feedback and hope. And no one has left any more comments!Yes,I to have a full set of dentures-But the real story here is at least we got out of the life, and are able to smile with or without dentures. There are alot of are fellow users that will never be able to smile, because they still haven't pulled them selves up out of the gutter! When you see that fellow user, give him{her} a smile, let them know, things could be better. And yes,We know-thats the last thing they want to hear, for they want that next hit.But keep smiling at them, keep telling them things could get better{with orwithout teeth} And maybe, just maybe you may be the reason that next person goes into the dentists office and says"I would like to see about getting a set of dentures-please!!!" Heres Smiling at You!!!

Well, darn it anyway. I'm in my early 50s and sober since late 1981. And I wouldn't recognize meth (or crack) if they jumped up and bit me on the nose!
But due to a combo of unfortunate genetics, a couple of incompetent dentists when I was younger, recent loss of my family's dental coverage, and a bit of a sweet tooth -- my teeth, the ones I have left that is, are in *terrible* shape!
So, you're telling me after 27-plus years of recovery, I'm now going to be mistaken for a meth-head? Thanks a whole heckuva lot! ;-)

The grass is greener on this side of the fence. It wasn"t easy, but I would do it all over again to get to where I am todoy! Today I love me and my life!People are willing to help you if you are trying to help yourself-give them a chance, you may be surprised!!!
