I live in Portland, OR, and there's hardly an employer that doesn't make you fill out an online application. It's very hard to figure out how to get through the process to get an interiew. They intentionally build in disqualifiers to bring down the huge numbers of applications they receive. Some employers also seem to have systems rife with bugs and problems as I've known many perfectly qualified people who have applied for jobs at my employer and HR has told them their online app was never received. It the policy of the company I work for to never give a confirmation. You will never receive a response back unless it is to ask you for an interview unless it's for a very high up position. Welcome to the new age. ps. please don't move to Portland looking for a job. It's hard enough to find one anyway, without so many people showing up here and hoping to find a job. And we don't have welfare. Fail to find a job and you will be homeless, broke and unable to get any assistance other than $140 a month in food stamps.
