by Larry Meeks

Dear Larry: When I was in junior high school, there was an incident that involved me and a black girl who was in a couple of my classes. (I am white.) I was called to the principal's office, and because I did not like the girl, I was accused of racism.

Mr. Meeks, I just finished reading your article "Racist label was unfairly assigned" Saturday march 21st. This happens ALOT these days and I too am a second generation American as is Lenore and my family had nothing to do with creating this problem. I am 64 years old and my first encounter with a black person was in 1962 when I joined the U. S. Army. My best friend in basic training was Leon George (black) and we went through our whole hitch together. That dose not make me unbias he was just a good person. I have had some unsavory encounters in the last 44 years with the getto type and some good experience with the educated and I mean both black and white. I think the fact that Mr. Obama is our president is driving a wedge between black and white. Most white people I know are going out of thier way to prove that they are not racist and that to me means the oposite. What do you think? We need to take Rodney Kings advice and "JUST GET ALONG" We are Americans (most of us) and will need to stay very close together in the next few years or we will continue to go down. As for your advise to white people if we were to do as you explained we may as well just join the K K K for all the good it would do we would have the reputation attached to us anyway. Thats not the answer. Black America needs to dump the poor me attitude. thats all I have to say for now.
