To A.L.: There is a fool-proof way for a woman to determine what grows inside her body: be celibate. If she is not, she needs to be responsible for what she creates and not sweep it under the rug as if it were nothing.

@A.L. What about fathers? Shouldn't they get a say in it? It's their children too.

I am bothered by the term "genocide" in this discussion. I think that implies that African-American women are somehow being forced to commit abortion by an outside group, perhaps for the betterment of society, as suggested by the person who referred to Margaret Sanger. I don't like the high abortion rate among African-Americans either, but no one is forcing them to do it, as far as I know. Has anyone studied the circumstances of the majority of the African American women who have abortions? That may be a better basis for discussing why these abortions are taking place, not decrying them as "genocide." And the point about adoption is well taken.

Abortion has always been a big issue with women's rights.
34 years ago my wife and I were told if we continue with the birth of our child one of three things would/could happen. Me wife could/would die 2)the child could/would die before birth 3) both would die before the birth or at birth. All seem surreal to us. She wanted the child for me and I wanted her for me with or without the child. I told her being the child was in her what ever choice she choose I would follow. I was hoping for the child. She choose to continue with the birth. We had a beautiful son 4 pound 15 ounces two months premature. He is now six tall and 240 pounds. I believe in women's choice but not at the expanse to public. If a women choose to have an abortion it should be at her expense and all expensive to follow are hers. Society should not have to pay for those of who are not resposible for their actions. I'm sorry if this offends many of the women who feel its there Right to abortion legal for of murder of a child and not charged her with murder. If you feel this incorrect I'm willing to listen to the other side.

"Our new president is black, and he is in favor of abortion. The people elected him, and we should follow his policies. We should be loyal citizens and follow his example and opinions because he is smart and knows what is best for America. People like you should be silenced." At first I thought this letter was some kind of sick joke. To my horror, I realized the girl who wrote it was completely serious. Worse, it made me realize that there are millions of other Americans who think like this, especially now that we indeed have a minority President. It is a good explanation why he is getting away with his unprecedented efforts to nationalize huge chunks of the US economy and only one portion of the voting population is willing to call him on it. This kind of mush-headed thinking and unwillingness to question our leaders....is exactly how totalitarian states like Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and the Soviet Union get started. Which then proceed to murder millions of people because too many "Jessica's" were willing to fall in line without asking hard questions. Get a grip, sister....the man still puts his pants on one leg at a time. He isn't Jesus of Nazareth.
