Covering up the behavior of a molester is not LIKE hiding the evidence of a crime - it IS hiding the evidence of a crime. Knowing that a child was molested and doing nothing about it makes one an accessory the crime of molesting a child, which is absolutely reprehensible. With the new Failure-to-Protect laws on the books, anyone who knows of the abuse or neglect of a child and fails to act to stop it can go to prison.

Teachers, doctors, nurses, and anyone else who works or volunteers with children are also legally obligated to report suspected abuse. If it reaches that point, and it comes out that someone who could have stopped/prevented the situation didn't, that person will be charged with Failure to Protect.

The fiancee needs to get away from this family NOW, but she also has an obligation to report what she knows, because Grandpa could already be passing on his cruel legacy to other girls in the family.

LW1. If she left when Seth was a toddler (1-2 years) and the boy is now 7 why has dad been dragging his feet to get full custody? Sounds like Grandma is a lot more concerned than the father. Kids need responsible parents. If the one with physical custody does not provide that then the other parent needs to do something. As for not getting medical information. He has joint custody. He can see the doctor himself to find out what is going on.

Cathy, I bet that Seth's mother is extremely manipulative, and the judge in their divorce case probably believes all of her lies. It happens a lot, unfortunately, and there are still a lot of judges who automatically believe the mother over the father.

The divorce was years ago and he has not tried to gain custody since. So just because she is manipulative (which is obvious) there is no excuse that can be made for him for not trying to remove him from his mother's custody.

Cathy, that man probably doesn't have tons of money. Lawyers aren't free.
