Creators mourns the loss of columnist Tony Blankley.
Tony was a man of integrity, intelligence and good sense. Over the course of many years, I never saw him do a petty or mean thing. He ably defended conservatism, and he was always a delightful companion. Deepest sympathies to his wife, Lynda, and his three children. This is a hard loss. — Mona Charen
With Tony Blankley gone, one of my major sources of stimulation and insight has left the American scene. He was a voice I trusted, erudite and thoughtful. He is missed terribly. -- R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr.
Tony Blankley was a conservative of the old school. He loved his family, his farm and all of the animals on it. He stood loyally by his friends and the leaders he served, like Ronald Reagan. While he cherished his British roots, he was an American patriot through and through, devoting his career as a writer to warning his country of the dangers and evils of Soviet communism and Islamic fanaticism. The hundreds of hours we spent together in the green room before “The McLaughlin Group,” swapping stories and anecdotes from history, in which he was deeply schooled, are among my most cherished memories. He was a dear friend, a man you could trust and rely on. I shall miss him as much as his country already does. -- Pat Buchanan
Tony was erudite and knowledgeable. He brought a thorough understanding and sharp insights into politics. “He knew where the bodies were buried” is the ultimate compliment in Washington. But Tony was a lot more than that. He wrote about culture, both the real thing and pop culture, too. He knew movies from observing Hollywood up close as a child actor and then as a wide-eyed young man. He held deep convictions, but he never gave the impression that he was mad at anybody. He had a deep suspicion of Islam, for example, but he was never frenzied or emotional in writing or talking about it. He loved America as only an immigrant can. He edited the editorial and commentary pages of The Washington Times, produced a lovely weekly column and still found time to write books brimming with facts, intuition, understanding and a joyous enthusiasm. Tony was the real deal. -- Suzanne Fields
