Yearly, 7,000 Lives Are Saved
DR. WALLACE: I'd like to know why we have a stupid law in the United States that requires a person to reach age 21 before legally consuming a drop of alcohol. I am a college freshman at Miami University in Florida and if I have a glass of wine at …Read more.
Outside Lockers Save School Money
DR. WALLACE: Lately, someone has been breaking into student lockers and stealing things. Sometimes I leave expensive things in my locker, and I would be very upset if they were stolen. But if they were, would the school be responsible to reimburse …Read more.

What is LSD?DR. WALLACE: I'm 19 and dating a guy I work with who is 21. I like the guy. He is good-looking, funny and intelligent. He smokes pot regularly, but that's no big deal to me. He also uses LSD. Twice he freaked out and I had to drive his car to his house and then call my roommate to pick me up. When I try to find out about the legal ramifications of possessing or selling LSD, he tells me it's no big deal. Somehow I think it is. Information on LSD will be appreciated. What exactly is LSD? - Nameless, Phoenix, Ariz. NAMELESS: LSD was chemically created by a Swiss doctor to treat humans with a variety of mental disorders, but it never was used for any medical purpose. The doctor accidentally injected a small amount of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide and hallucinated. He saw, heard and smelled things that were not actually there. This accident happened in the 1930s. Even though the drug LSD was considered unsuccessful for medical purposes, the "tune in, turn on and drop out" culture discovered the drug in the early 1960s. The effects were so devastating that legislatures passed drug laws in the mid-1960s making LSD an illegal drug. Using or selling it results in a fine and time behind bars. The psychological effects of the drug are devastating because it alters the manner in which the senses send signals to the brain. Those under the influence of LSD have gross distortions of images (users have crawled out of upper story windows believing that the ground was just beneath them).
Because of its chemical make-up, LSD may be stored in the body and released into the system weeks or even months after using the drug. These "flashbacks" can be as both unsettling and unpleasant as they are unplanned. I could go on and on about LSD and the dangers it offers to the users. This guy is a loser. Dump him immediately. I RECEIVED A BAD CHRISTMAS GIFT DR. WALLACE: I'm 17 and the guy I was dating is 18. We had been dating for almost a year. We had great times together and I thought that I loved him and that he felt the same about me. Before Christmas, he gave me the worst possible present. He told me that he had met another girl and that he was going to be seeing her instead of me. He started to tell me where he met her, but I said that I wasn't interested. Our relationship is history, but I have a miserable feeling knowing that I was dumped by my boyfriend. My mom keeps telling me that I will "eventually" get over my lost love. I'd like your definition of "eventually." — Nameless, Goshen, Ind. NAMELESS: "Eventually" arrives when another guy asks you out and you say yes! So do not sit at home and mope — get involved in activities and you'll soon be back in circulation. Dr. Robert Wallace welcomes questions from readers.
