Yearly, 7,000 Lives Are Saved
DR. WALLACE: I'd like to know why we have a stupid law in the United States that requires a person to reach age 21 before legally consuming a drop of alcohol. I am a college freshman at Miami University in Florida and if I have a glass of wine at …Read more.
Outside Lockers Save School Money
DR. WALLACE: Lately, someone has been breaking into student lockers and stealing things. Sometimes I leave expensive things in my locker, and I would be very upset if they were stolen. But if they were, would the school be responsible to reimburse …Read more.
Tell Your Friend the Bad News
DR. WALLACE: My cousin Ted is going with my best friend, Karen, and I thought they were a great couple, but now I'm not so sure. I know she really is in love with him, and she thinks he loves her, too.

Give Intelligent Young Women a BreakDR. WALLACE: I'm angry that you encourage all girls, even the mentally, emotionally and physically mature young women who happen to be teenagers, not to get involved with older guys. You are dead wrong in your assumption that older guys and teenage girls shouldn't be engaged in a romantic relationship. I'm 17, a gifted student and emotionally wise beyond my years. Why should I get involved with a guy my age who has animal lust and thinks that he wants to be an automobile mechanic if and when he ever graduates from high school? Ugh! I recently met a guy at a college lecture and we have been seeing one another for over a month. He has taken me to a new level of being in love. He is simply wonderful, mature, intelligent, compassionate and cares about our country's future. He is 26 years old. What 17-year-old boy that you know has these marvelous qualities? Guys my age are interested in beer, pot, sports and sex. The only knowledge of geography they possess is "Roman" hands and "Russian" fingers. Give us intelligent, mature young women a break. Instead of age difference, consider the maturity difference of couples. I'm not afraid to give my name. - Daphne, Boston, Mass. DAPHNE: In life, there are exceptions to almost everything. I receive letters and emails from smokers who tell me that they have an 88-year-old grandfather who has been smoking two packs of cigarettes a day for the past 72 years and that he is extremely healthy. That is the exception. Medical experts tell us that smoking is a health hazard. You may be the exception in dating an older man, but in the great majority of cases where teen girls see older guys, the teen winds up the loser.
'POT' USE IS BETTER THAN HEROIN DR. WALLACE: I know that you are against teens experimenting with drugs. I feel the same way. But my girlfriend and I both enjoy smoking pot once or twice a week. We don't smoke tobacco cigarettes, and we don't engage in taking drugs. You are also anti-pot. What pot does is make the user mellow and it enhances all of the human senses. Everything tastes better and everything feels better while high on pot. Please be more lenient on us recreational pot smokers. I'm a good student and so is my girlfriend. We have never been in trouble at school or in our community. Let us be honest. There is no way you can lump us together with cocaine and heroin addicts. Yet, you consider us all to be criminal drug abusers. - Steve, Santa Barbara, Calif. STEVE: You are correct! There is a vast difference between someone who uses marijuana once or twice a week and a person who is addicted to cocaine and/or heroin and is constantly seeking funds to feed his or her habit. I'd much rather see young people smoke marijuana than engage in other illegal drugs. But I would be even happier if they didn't use marijuana at all!
