Embarrassed by Bold Move

Comment

Hey, Cherie!

I'm a 13-year-old girl. I know this may sound vain, but I know I am pretty. I have been getting attention for a long time, and I am always called "the pretty one."

Well, now that I am developing, guys think I am like 17! I love it because I think my best friend's older sister's boyfriend is so fine! He is 16, and I just had to try to talk to him one night at a party. He always says hi to me. He sometimes touches my arm or says I look nice or something. I thought he liked me.

Well, he made me feel like an idiot! I don't know what made me do it, but I tried to kiss him. He just pushed me away like I was nothing. I wanted to sink into the floor! I don't think anyone saw, at least I was careful to wait till he was completely alone. I can't believe this happened, and I am way too embarrassed to tell anyone! And, of course, I completely avoid my best friend's house now 'cause I am afraid I would turn bright red if I see him. Cherie! What should I do? —Beyond Embarrassed

Hey, Beyond!

Oh, man! I know just how you feel! It sucks to put yourself out there and get rejected. Every one of us has had the experience of things not working out the way we want them to. It's the embarrassment part that is really tough to get over, isn't it? Feeling like there is nothing that can make you forget that moment when things went the wrong way.

But you know what? Things went the way they went. There is nothing you can do to change it. I think you have to decide how to react to it.

This something that you can learn from and process as an unfortunate turn of events, but also realize how bold and confident you are. Perhaps this was the wrong target, and the next one will return you feelings. Maybe you should lead with your wonderful confident conversation first, and then see what happens.

Hey, Cherie!

I'm a full grown 16 year old, and I like to drink coffee in the morning. My mom says it isn't good for me even though she drinks coffee everyday. Everybody I know hangs out and drinks coffee! It's like the national pastime! —No Caff

Hey, No Caff!

I love coffee in the morning, too, truth be told. If you had to drink soda everyday then I would be worried. Health-wise, moderate coffee drinking hasn't been found harmful either for someone your "full-grown age."

I say, a cup a day, with whipped cream, please!

Hey No Caff, they have recently learned about some really good benefits to coffee. In fact it turns out that coffee is so good for you they are putting green coffee berry extract in capsules. It helps our bodies deal with the insulin response. Can you get used to drinking it with less or no sugar? There are so many fun things that are bad for us, but coffee is a win-win situation. Gotta go now and get me another cup o'joe!

Dear LW#1,
Perhaps there is something you didn't think of...this young man is your best friend's older sister's boyfriend! It is not a good idea to go after someone who is in a committed relationship. You may be getting a lot of attention, but-is it for the right reasons? Are you as interesting as you are pretty? Boys will go for a pretty girl, but that will be very short lived if you don't have substance to back it up. Find out what you are intested in! Read, try art, sports, science projects, journal, listen to different kinds of music...develop your spirit! You should apologize to this young man. We all do stupid things and all of you will get over it. Good Luck!

LW1 - Take another important lesson from your actions: do not pursue someone whom you know is already taken. Suppose he'd returned your advances and then the sister found out? Your "best friend" would then no longer be your friend at all, and depending on what state you lived in, it's possible the boy's parents, or even your parents, could have him brought in for statutory rape and registered as a lifetime sex offender. I know your hormones are raging, but it's important that you exercise some self-control.
