One of the pleasures of living in America is getting to argue about rights — what they are, who has them and how to define them. In the last week, we've all had a rousing time debating the right to keep and bear arms. Americans can hardly talk about political issues without invoking these fundamental prerogatives.

Other countries may have a similar inclination to quarrel over whether people have a legitimate claim to religious freedom, a fair trial, health care or housing. The right to life and the right to liberty, on the other hand, are common assumptions around the world.

Creators Syndicate launched Scary Gary, the highly anticipated, darkly humorous comic strip from Mark Buford on June 16th. Prior to the comic's launch, however, Buford's name had already been buzzing in the ears of B-movie fans and throughout the science fiction community.
